Laws made today, will strengthen India--PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Supreme Court on Sunday. Unveiling the 75th year of the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Modi launched citizen-centric information and technology initiatives that include Digital Supreme Court Reports (Digi-SCR), Digital Courts 2.0 and a new website of the apex court. Addressing the event, Modi said laws being made in India today will further strengthen the bright India of tomorrow. He highlighted that a strong judicial system is the main foundation of a developed India. He informed that the Government has given approval of 800 crore rupees for the new Supreme Court building.Modisaid the Supreme Court has strengthened India's vibrant democracy. 

Speaking on the occassion,Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said the Supreme Court will soon migrate its digital data to a cloud-based infrastruct.He said the ability of the Supreme Court to remain relevant as an institution needs recognising challenges and starting difficult conversations. "What is the future... We are also on the verge of opening a war room equipped with technology enabling the Supreme Court to monitor real-time judicial data of the entire country," Chief Justice Chandrachud said.The digital Supreme Court reports will make judgments available to people for free in a digital format. All 519 volumes of Supreme Court reports since 1950, covering 36,308 cases, will be available in digital format, bookmarked, user-friendly and with open access.
The Supreme Court held its inaugural sitting on January 28, 1950.
