Congress announces 'Dhanyawaad Yatra' in UP from June 11
The Congress has announced that it will take out a 'Dhanyawaad Yatra' from June 11 to 15 in all 403 constituencies of the state.
Buoyed by the INDIA bloc's stunning performance in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress has announced that it will take out a 'Dhanyawaad Yatra' from June 11 to 15 in all 403 constituencies of the state. Senior party leaders and workers are expected to participate in the yatra.
During the yatra, people from different communities will be honored by giving a copy of the Constitution.
The Congress won six of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh while its INDIA ally Samajwadi Party (SP) secured 37. Both parties trumped the BJP that managed 33 seats. It was a marked improvement for both SP and Congress after they won just one and five seats, respectively, in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The BJP swept the state with 62 seats.
Rahul Gandhi defeated BJP rival Dinesh Pratap Singh with over three lakh votes in Raebareli, a seat that was earlier represented by her mother, Sonia Gandhi. According to the Election Commission, Rahul Gandhi surpassed his mother's victory margin in Raebareli in 2019, when she won the seat by a margin of 1,67,178 votes against Dinesh Pratap Singh.
On the other hand, BJP's Smriti Irani, who unseated Rahul Gandhi from Amethi, another Congress bastion in the 2019 elections, lost to Kishori Lal Sharma, a Congress loyalist, by a margin of over 1.65 lakh votes.
Other parties, including the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), led by Jayant Chaudhary and Apna Dal (Soneylal), both of which are allies of the BJP-led NDA won two and one, respectively. The Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) also managed victory in one seat. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of Lok Sabha seats (80) and assembly constituencies (403) in the state.
