Diwali Bonanza: 3% Hike In DA For Central Government Employees

Central government employees and pensioners have got a Diwali bonanza from the government as the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a 3 percent hike in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR), said sources. After the announcement, the DA will increase from 50 percent to 53 percent of the basic pay.

With this, central government employees will receive their October salary with the revised DA, along with arrears for the past three months. Pensioners will also benefit from this announcement, as the Dearness Relief (DR) will be adjusted accordingly.

DA is given to government employees and pensioners to compensate them for increasing prices. Revised periodically twice a year, this allowance is calculated on the basis of the latest consumer price index for industrial workers.
