Goddess Durga held Shehbaz’s head: Trump, Yunus in demon avatar

After Trump as a demon, now another West Bengal pandal depicting Bangladesh's interim Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus as Mahishasura is creating a buzz.

At the Sadhak Narendra Smriti Sangha pandal in Murshidabad's Berhampore, organisers have chosen a political theme titled 'Dahan', meaning the end of evil. In line with this, the traditional demon Mahishasura has been sculpted to closely resemble Dr Yunus, while a severed head held by Goddess Durga is clearly modelled after Shehbaz Sharif.

Indrojit Dubey, one of the key organisers, defended the choice, saying, “The theme this year is ‘Dahan’. Given the present situation, we decided to portray Dr Yunus and Shehbaz Sharif as they symbolise evil.” Given the theme, the pandal has attracted large crowds, with many visitors spending more time observing the demon figures than the central Durga idol itself.

Similarly, the Khagra Crematorium Ghat Durga Puja Committee pandal is making headlines since it unveiled an idol featuring a demon modeled after US President Donald Trump.

According to the committee, the Trump-faced demon represents the perceived betrayal by the US President, despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to maintain friendly relations. The portrayal reflects grievances over trade policies, including tariffs imposed on India, which the committee views as detrimental to the country’s interests.
