Jagdeep Dhankhar Makes First Public Appearance Since Resignation

Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar made his first public appearance on Friday since his sudden resignation, at the swearing-in ceremony of his successor, CP Radhakrishnan, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan took oath as the 15th Vice President of India on Friday at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Vice-Presidents Jagdeep Dhankhar and Venkaiah Naidu, former President Ram Nath Kovind, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and others were present during the oath-taking ceremony.

The former Vice President was seated in the front row next to his predecessor, Venkaiah Naidu, and was seen conversing with him, Hindustan Times reported. Dhankhar’s wife, Sudesh Dhankhar, was also present at the event.

Dhankhar resigned on July 21, citing his health as the reason for his decision. His decision, however, evoked questions from the Opposition, who flagged concerns over the lack of transparency surrounding his exit. The questions were also raised during the monsoon session of the Parliament.
