Kap’s Caffe, the newly opened Surrey café owned by comedian Kapil Sharma and his wife Ginni Chatrath, has issued its first official statement following a violent vandalism attack on its premises earlier this week. In a message shared via social media, the café team said that the incident has left them shocked, but they won't be giving up and will stand firm against violence.
"We opened Kap's Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversations. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up," reads the message.
The eatery team thanked patrons for their support during this difficult time. “Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This café exists because of your belief in what we’re building together," it added. Concluding on a hopeful note, the café wrote, “Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Caffe remains a place of warmth and community."
Unidentified assailants opened fire at the venue. Later, Khalistani terrorist Harjeet Singh Laddi claimed responsibility for the firing. A most-wanted terrorist listed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Laddi is associated with the banned group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
Mocked Nihang Sikhs
Meanwhile, Harjit Singh Laddi said in a social media post that a participant at Kapil Sharma's show had made some "humorous" remarks on the traditional dress and conduct of Nihang Sikhs that had hurt the sentiments of the community. Laddi added that he and Toofan Singh - also linked to BKI - were behind the firing at Kap's Cafe in Surrey, British Columbia, on Wednesday night.
