Gauhar Chishti, the Khadim of Ajmer Sharif Dargah who was arrested for raising provocative slogans against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma, was acquitted by a local court on Tuesday. The court also acquitted six others accused in the same case.

In June 2022, a video went viral where Gauhar Chishti and others was seen raising provocative slogans against Nupur Sharma at the main gate of the Ajmer dargah. In the video, Chishti was seen raising 'sar tan se juda' slogan shortly before a rally of the Muslim community commenced against Nupur Sharma, who became a centre of controversy after she made derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad during a television debate. Sharma, who was suspended by the BJP, complained about receiving multiple death threats over her remarks.
