Mallikarjun Kharge apologies for his remark

Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge's derogatory remark during a debate on the contentious National Education Policy (NEP) led to a massive uproar in the Rajya Sabha. As the BJP MPs slammed Kharge for using unparliamentary language that they claimed was meant for the chairperson, the Congress chief clarified that it was directed at the policies of the government.

Kharge also apologised for the remark, which loosely translates to "knock someone out". It was later expunged from Rajya Sabha records.

As the Rajya Sabha took up a discussion on the working of the Education Ministry, the opposition was up on its feet to demand an apology from Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over his "uncivilised" jab at DMK MPs amid the row over the three-language policy in NEP.

Amid the din, deputy chairperson Harivansh called Congress leader Digvijay Singh to start the discussion. However, Kharge intervened to rake up the remarks of the Education Minister. "This is a dictatorship," Kharge said as Harivansh asked him to sit down.
