A case related to outraging the modesty of a woman has been registered against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for a social media post on National Commission for Women chief Rekha Sharma.
The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell will now take the X handle details from the social media platform from which derogatory language was used against Rekha Sharma. Thereafter, the matter will be further investigated, police said.
On Thursday, Moitra commented on a video showing Rekha Sharma’s arrival at the site of Hathras stampede. The video showed a man walking behind, holding an umbrella over her. The video was shared on X, with a social media user questioning why Rekha Sharma could not carry her own umbrella.
Mahua Moitra responded to the tweet, saying, "She (Rekha Sharma) is too busy holding up her boss's pajamas", which sparked a controversy. She later deleted the post.
The MP from West Bengal's Krishnanagar, who was disqualified from the Lok Sabha last year after the 'cash-for-query' row and won with a margin of about 56,000 votes in this year's general elections, had made a remark on Thursday.
