Monsoon likely to hit Kerala in two days

Kerala is set to welcome southwest monsoon within the next two days, according to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This annual weather phenomenon, crucial for agriculture and water resources across India, is expected to make its onset as conditions rapidly become favorable over the southern state.

The IMD reported on Friday that a well-marked low-pressure area currently lies over the east-central Arabian Sea, just off the south Konkan coast. This system is anticipated to move northwards and intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours, setting the stage for widespread rainfall along India’s western coastline.

While the southern and western regions brace for the onset of rain, the IMD also cautioned about ongoing heat wave conditions in parts of North and Northwest India. West Rajasthan is expected to experience intense heat from May 23 to 27, with Jammu & Kashmir and East Rajasthan also likely to see elevated temperatures through the weekend.

The monsoon’s timely arrival in Kerala typically signals the start of the rainy season for the rest of the country, gradually moving northwards and bringing relief from the scorching summer.
