Companies like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and BigBasket offered a glimpse into their most popular orders, featuring everything from snacks and drinks to party accessories. The customers ordered everything that could have aided their party mood on the celebratory occasion of New Year's Eve.
The diverse range of items-spanning from grapes to condoms and even unconventional choices like handcuffs - highlighted how these services became integral to India’s New Year celebrations.
Party staples such as chips, coke and namkeen were the toast of the evening as per Blinkit co-founder Albinder Dhindsa. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that his delivery executives had delivered 2.3 lakh packets of aloo bhujiya's and 6,834 packets of ice cubes by 8 pm on December 31.
He added that 39 percent of condom sales were for chocolate flavour, with strawberry at 31 percent and bubblegum at 19 percent after a user asked for the breakdown. As the party got started, chips and soda were also among the highest-ordered items, apart from aloo bhujia, ice cubes, lipsticks, and lighters.
Dhindsa revealed: “Another product which I didn't expect will be ordered in high quantities - men's underwear.” And then, mineral water bottles, condoms and Eno were also there while orders for lemons spiked around 10PM.
On Swiggy Instamart, meanwhile, the most trending searches of the evening were milk, chips, chocolates, and paneer apart from grapes. The platform witnessed a national craze, with chips, cold drinks, and soda flying off the virtual shelves as the most sold items. Items like chips and nachos were party staples, with sales spiking over 300 percent. Over 5 lakh packets of chips were sold, proving that nothing pairs better with celebration than snacks.
Swiggy co-founder Phani Kishan revealed that a staggering 1 in every 8 orders was for a cold drink, with cola soft drinks up by a whopping 394 percent, and clear soft drinks soaring by an incredible 941 percent. But the real surprise? Non-alcoholic beers skyrocketed with a mind-blowing 1541.72 percent jump. Apart from snacks and drinks, people stocked up on games and puzzles, with orders shooting up by 600 percent - and Uno topped as the ultimate game of the night.
On BigBasket, sales of non-alcoholic beverages went up by 552 percent and disposable cups and plates by 325 percent. Soda and mocktail sales also increased by 200 percent.
