The Kiwis, led by Tom Latham, outplayed India in all departments, bundling out the hosts for a mere 46 in the first innings and sealing a memorable win on Indian soil—their first since 1988.

The solid partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Will Young propelled New Zealand to an eight-wicket win over India in the first Test of the three-match series in Bengaluru. Chasing 107, New Zealand faced an early setback as they lost their skipper Tom Latham for duck. However, the partnership between Devon Conway (17) and Will Young (45*) brought the visitors back into the game. Despite losing Conway, New Zealand chased down the target with ease as Rachin Ravindra (39*) provided the finishing touch. For India, Jasprit Bumrah scalped both wickets. Earlier, Sarfaraz Khan scored 150 runs for India while Rishabh Pant scored 99. This was New Zealand's first Test win on Indian soil in 36 years, 

No need for panic

Captain Rohit Sharma remained upbeat despite India's shock loss to the visiting New Zealand. He said "three hours" of bad cricket played in the first innings will not dictate how India's decision-making in the rest of the long Test season.

the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side was able to maintain its lead in the World Test Championship (WTC) Points Table. Following the loss, India have a PCT of 74.24. On the other hand, New Zealand moved up to fourth with a PCT of 44.44 after they registered their first Test win in 36 years on Indian soil. Australia are second with 62.50 while Sri Lanka retained their position at three with a PCT of 55.56. Pakistan are currently in the eighth position with 25.93 while West Indies are last in the table.
