India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah stole the show with the ball as Australia ended Day 1 tottering at 67/7, in response to India's first innings total of 150 in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth. Bumrah first took the wicket of debutant opener Nathan McSweeney, then got Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith on consecutive balls, and finally dismissed opposite captain Pat Cummins at the end of the day as well. Alex Carey was unbeaten on 19 and Mitchell Starc not out six.
Bumrah was complemented superbly by Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana, with the later taking his maiden Test wicket by cleaning up Travis Head. Earlier, debutant Nitish Reddy's battling 41 took India to 150, as Josh Hazlewood picked up four wickets for Australia.
After opting to bat the visitors were blown away for 150, no match for the hosts’ lethal pace attack with Josh Hazlewood taking 4-29. Impressive debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy and flamboyant Rishabh Pant (37) showed some spirit but once again superstar Virat Kohli flopped, out for five.
