Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who won from Kerala's Wayanad, on Thursday took oath as a Lok Sabha MP. Holding a Constitution book in her hand. 52-year-old Priyanka took oath in Hindi in the presence of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and MPs seated in Parliament. Her brother Rahul Gandhi, mother Sonia Gandhi, husband Robert Vadra, their children, and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge were present at the event.
With Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's entry into the Lok Sabha, Parliament now has three members of the Gandhi family for the first time in decades. While Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi will sit in the Lok Sabha, their mother Sonia Gandhi is in the Rajya Sabha after she opted not to contest from Raebareli in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Apart from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress leader Ravindra Chavan, who defeated his BJP rival from Nanded in a Lok Sabha by-poll held in that seat, also took oath as an MP.
Soon after Priyanka took oath, Rahul Gandhi asked his sister to stop, while she was walking outside the Parliament. He wanted to click some pictures of his sister. One of the videos of “proud brother" Rahul Gandhi clicking pictures of Priyanka Gandhi, and asking her to smile was shared by the Congress on X.
In the video, Rahul could be seen saying, “Let me also click one", while others laugh and share a light moment. Another video showed Rahul asking Priyanka to take a step back so that he could take her pictures while others stood aside. And like a good brother, he showed the clicked picture to Priyanka.
Later, the newly-sworn MP was also pictured with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge.
Priyanka Gandhi took the plunge into active politics in 2019 and was later appointed Congress general secretary. Five years after that, Priyanka Gandhi begins her journey as an elected representative of the people.
