AR Rahman Uses Hashtag In Post Announcing Divorce, Gets Trolled

AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu have announced their separation after nearly three decades of marriage. Following the announcement, the Oscar-winning composer shared an emotional note on social media, expressing that they “hoped to reach the grand thirty", but their relationship couldn’t carry the weight of “broken hearts". While many expressed sympathy for the couple going through a rough patch after 29 years of marriage, they couldn’t wrap their heads around the hashtag, Rahman used.

AR Rahman wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter." He completed his post with a bouquet emoji and the hashtag “#arrsairaabreakup".

The Internet was puzzled to see this hashtag and questioned AR Rahman for using it on a sensitive post on X. Many people pointed out that he requested privacy but ended up using a hashtag, which would invite more attention. Hashtag has sparked chatter online, with one expressing shock as they write, “Hashtag (#arrsairaabreakup) for a divorce post. Who creates a hashtag for this situation?" asks one X user.

A second posts a question, “Sad for them. May God give them strength. But why the hashtag?" “Bro, that hashtag is going to be talked about more than your breakup," says a fourth. A fifth chimes in, “Now your followers are expected to trend this hashtag?"

AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, tied the knot in 1995 and are parents to three children: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.

Bassist Mohini Dey also separates

Their announcement comes hours after AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu's decision to call it quits.
