Shefali Jariwala's death: Probe focuses on anti-ageing, skin glow medicines, fasting

Police officials on Monday said they found two boxes of medications at actor Shefali Jariwala's home during their investigation into her untimely death. The Mumbai Police are still awaiting the post-mortem report, after which the cause of her death will be ascertained.

However, the officials said Jariwala was using skin glow and anti-ageing medications. The police found two boxes containing tablets and vials of anti-ageing medication (Glutathione) and skin glow medications at Jariwala's residence.

The officials further said they spoke to the doctors and shared details regarding the medication she was consuming. They said she had been empty stomach and was fasting on the day of her death. She had also taken a vial of Glutathione on an empty stomach that day. Doctors suspected that she might have experienced a drop in her blood pressure, sending the body into cardiac arrest.

Police are investigating all possible angles related to medication and will issue an official statement on the cause of death once the post-mortem report is released. Jariwala was found dead at her residence on the night of June 27. She was rushed to the hospital by her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, where the doctors declared her dead.

The interest around what killed this 42-year-old performer stems from the fear surrounding heart attacks in middle-aged individuals, including several celebrities. Videos of people collapsing and dying - many of them with a healthy weight and a fit regime, often make it to social media, triggering questions on whether a single factor is responsible for these premature deaths. Over the past few years, several celebrities in their 40s and 50s have succumbed to sudden heart ailments.

These include singer KK (53), actor Puneeth Rajkumar (46), filmmaker Raj Kaushal (50), comic Raju Srivastav (58), and actor Sidharth Shukla (40). Actor and Miss Universe, 1994, Sushmita Sen (49) suffered a heart attack in 2023 and underwent angioplasty and stent placement. Most of these performers followed a fitness regime, and still succumbed to heart ailments, prompting questions about what went wrong. Shefali Jariwala is the latest name on the tragic list.
