Sikh Woman Raped In UK, Told "Go Back To Your Country"

A Sikh woman in her twenties was raped by two men in Oldbury, UK, and subjected to racist abuse, including being told to “go back to your country."

The attack, which police are treating as racially aggravated, occurred near Tame Road around 8:30 am last Tuesday, said officials. The police are treating it as a 'racially aggravated' attack and have urged for help to trace the attackers. The woman has informed them that the attackers made racist comments, the police said, adding that CCTV and forensic inquiries are underway.

According to West Midlands Police, the woman reported that the assailants hurled racist remarks during the assault. Local media described the attackers as white men, one with a shaved head wearing a dark sweatshirt, and the other dressed in a grey top.

The crime has sparked anger within the Sikh community, with police acknowledging the outrage as “fully understandable" and promising increased patrols in the area. Birmingham MP Preet Kaur Gill strongly condemned the assault, calling the rise of “overt racism" in the UK deeply troubling. Ilford South MP Jas Athwal described the incident as a “vile, racist, misogynist attack," warning it reflects “rising racial tensions" in the country that have left a young woman “traumatised for life."

The attack comes weeks after two elderly Sikh men were brutally assaulted outside Wolverhampton railway station by teenagers, who were filmed kicking them repeatedly until bystanders intervened.
