Suryakumar shuts down Pakistani reporter with witty remark
A Pakistani reporter questioned India captain Surya’s ‘behaviour’ towards the Pakistani team. The India skipper said that he couldn't understand the query from the reporter.
Amid the heated atmosphere post PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s bizarre antics of walking away with the Asia Cup Trophy and medals after India refused to accept the awards from the Pakistani Interior Minister, Suryakumar Yadav kept his calm and showed his witty side when there was an attempt to draw a reaction from a journalist.
A Pakistani reporter questioned India captain Surya’s ‘behaviour’ towards the Pakistani team during the tournament as the champions refused to shake their hands in light of the heightened tensions between the two countries following the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year. The scribe also alleged that Surya is the first captain in cricket history to mix politics and the game.
"Today you are champions, you played a great game. But the question is, throughout this tournament, your behavior towards the Pakistan team has been noticed — you didn’t do handshakes, you didn’t take part in the photo session with the trophy, and then you held a political press conference. Do you think that in the history of cricket, you are the first captain who has brought politics into the game of cricket?" asked the reporter.
Before Suryakumar could answer, the media advisors intervened and asked him not to answer. The Indian captain joked that the reporter was getting angry, which left the media room in splits. The India skipper said that he couldn't understand the query from the reporter before moving on. "Do I have to answer or not? You’re getting angry. I couldn’t even understand your question, you asked four questions at the same time," said Suryakumar.
In a stunning development, ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi stormed out of the Dubai International Cricket Stadium after the Indian team refused to share the stage with him during the presentation ceremony. Naqvi also took away the trophy and team medals meant for the victorious Indian cricket team. Naturally, Surya was aghast and lashed out at the shocking turn of events.
“I think this is one thing that I have never seen since I started playing and following cricket, that a champion team is denied a trophy. I mean that too, a hard-earned one. It’s not like it happened easily. It was a hard-earned tournament win," Suryakumar responded to a query on how it felt being denied the trophy after winning seven games at the continental showpiece.
Pak Captain Threw Away Runners-Up Cheque
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha threw away the runners-up cheque after the narrow loss to India in the Asia Cup 2025 final. Agha was visibly dejected after his side's third straight defeat to India in the tournament. During the post-match presentation ceremony, Agha threw away the runners-up cheque in frustration after receiving it from the Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) representative, Aminul Islam. However, he was booed by the crowd over the same. Speaking after the loss, Agha admitted that the result was a "tough pill to swallow." He blamed the batters, including himself, for not giving the bowlers enough runs to defend on a two-paced track.
