Trump Cabinet is on the warpath for Peace Nobel
Trump and his Cabinet are on the warpath for the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump, by contrast, has pursued it with striking audacity, self-interest, and desperation.

At a time when the Nobel Prize Committee must be in the thick of discussion to announce the winner in October, the Trump Cabinet has assumed the form of a lobbying group. And such blatant lobbying is that a video of Cabinet members praising Donald Trump has been televised to create pressure.
"There's only one thing I wish for—that the Nobel committee finally gets its act together and realizes that you [Trump] are the single finest candidate since this Nobel award was ever talked about," Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff gushed. The clip has gone viral now.
"All the President's men and women took turns to praise him," in the meeting that lasted half the work day, reported The New York Times.
Forget the President's men; the President is unabashed about the Nobel Peace Prize, which Trump so craves, but which continues to elude him. Norwegian media reported that Trump cold-called Norway’s finance minister last month, asking about a nomination and discussing tariffs.
Trump has not just failed to bring lasting peace to any region but has also participated in bombing Iran. He has also brought war to the states by deploying Marines against American citizens, and plans to rename the US Defense Department the Department of War.
However, Trump and his Cabinet are on the warpath for the Nobel Peace Prize. US Presidents Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama also approached the honour with caution and humility. Trump, by contrast, has pursued it with striking audacity, self-interest, and desperation.
Labour Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer unveiled a giant banner of Trump at the Department of Labor, calling him a "transformational president" for American workers. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent highlighted his role in restoring trust and security in government. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins credited him with reviving Christian values and inspiring young Americans. Trump’s pursuit of the Nobel reportedly extended beyond words.
The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee to individuals or organisations making significant contributions to peace, diplomacy, or conflict resolution. Traditionally, recipients are recognised for mediating wars, promoting international cooperation, or advancing human rights.
Critics have questioned whether Trump qualifies. "Donald Trump claims to have ended six wars in six months and has been angling for a Nobel Peace Prize. Americans are less convinced of his diplomatic prowess," said The Economist on Wednesday, sharing a poll on the US President's approval ratings.
Not just Americans; at least three of the five Norwegian Nobel Committee members have voiced unfavourable opinions about Donald Trump.
Trump is trying to silence critics at home by using federal agencies. The FBI recently raided the home of John Bolton, a former National Security Adviser and Trump critic. Like Trump's attempts at bringing peace, his Nobel Peace campaign, in all likelihood, will fall through. But what will remain in public memory is how blatantly and brazenly the Trump Cabinet lobbied for the Nobel Peace Prize.
