UGC Declares 54 Private Universities Defaulters

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notice to 54 state private universities that have either failed to submit information under Section 13 of the UGC Act, 1956, or have not uploaded their public self-disclosure details on their official websites.

The directive follows UGC guidelines on public self-disclosure issued on June 10, 2024, which require all higher education institutions to maintain a functional website providing relevant information to stakeholders. Universities were instructed to submit detailed information for inspection purposes under Section 13 of the UGC Act in the prescribed soft copy format, available at ugc.gov.in, along with supporting documents attested by the university registrar. Additionally, institutions were directed to upload the completed formats and appendices on their websites with a link on the home page for public access.

Despite multiple reminders through emails and online meetings, 54 state private universities have not complied with UGC directives. These universities are from Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
