Varalaxmi on childhood sexual assault: 5-6 people abused me
Tamil-Telugu actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar recently said, My parents (actors Sarathkumar and Chaya) were working back then, so they used to leave me in the care of other people. Five to six people have abused me as a child.
Tamil-Telugu actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar recently broke down on the sets of Zee Tamil's dance show when she spoke about being sexually abused as a child. The actor, who serves as a judge on the show, stood in solidarity with contestant Kemy, who recalled her story of being harassed by her family. Varalaxmi said that Kemy's story was her story and expressed her support by giving her a hug.
During one of the episodes of the dance-based reality show, Kemy shared her story about being let down by her family members and being sexually harassed. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who is known for keeping calm and composure, broke down after hearing Kemy's story.
Varalaxmi said, "I am just like you. My parents (actors Sarathkumar and Chaya) were working back then, so they used to leave me in the care of other people. Five to six people have abused me as a child. Your story is my story. I don't have any children. But, I tell parents to teach 'good touch' and 'bad touch' to children."
She said that she is not used to crying in front of the camera and apologised for the same. Actor Sneha, who is a fellow judge, said that she shouldn't apologise and that it takes guts to share her story.
Varalaxmi recently made her acting debut in director Bala's Vanangaan. The Poda Podi actor opened up about sexual harassment several times in the past. She has also been vocal about providing support to survivours through her Save Shakti Foundation.
