Few Burnt Notes Also Found Near Judge Yashwant Varma’s Residence 

A few burnt currency notes have been found near the residence of Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Varma, who is facing Supreme Court action over a huge pile of cash discovered after a fire at his official residence.

A sanitation worker, Inderjeet said, “We work in this circle. We collect garbage from the roads. We were cleaning here four to five days ago and collecting garbage when we found some small pieces of burnt Rs 500 notes. We found it that day. Now, we have found one or two more pieces. We do not know where a fire broke out. All we do is collect garbage."

The fresh discovery comes hours after Varma submitted his response in the case related to the alleged recovery of cash from his residence, stating that the room where the cash was found is disconnected from the main residence and is accessible to several people, who also use it.

In his response, he further mentioned that a fire had engulfed the storeroom near the staff quarters of his official Delhi residence on Holi, March 14. All members of the household were asked to move out. Once the fire was extinguished, they returned to the room, but no cash was found.

Appealing to the Delhi High Court Chief Justice to clear him of the “unfounded and baseless allegations," Justice Varma emphasised that nothing is more important in a judge’s life than their reputation and character.

The Supreme Court, in an unprecedented move, made public the video and photos purportedly showing sacks of charred notes that were allegedly recovered at the residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma during a fire-fighting operation last week. The video was shared by the Delhi Police Commissioner with the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.
