Supreme Court refuses to hear Arvind Kejriwal's bail extension plea

The Supreme Court will not hear Arvind Kejriwal's request seeking a 7-day extension of his interim bail in a corruption case linked to the Delhi liquor policy. The Court last month granted interim bail to Mr Kejriwal to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections and had asked him to surrender on June 2, a day after the last leg of polling.

The Supreme Court registrar, while refusing the plea, said that the Delhi Chief Minister was given permission to move the trial court for regular bail, and hence this petition is "not maintainable".

AAP chief has sought a seven-day extension to his interim bail on medical grounds. Kejriwal, in his bail extension plea, said, "Unexplained weight loss is a symptom of life-threatening diseases. My health condition is partly attributable to the callous behaviour of the jail authorities. Another week of bail will allow me to take stock of health complications."

Yesterday, the court refused an urgent hearing of Arvind Kejriwal's bail extension plea, saying it would place the matter before Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.

The court, on May 10, granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections and asked him to surrender on June 2. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection to the liquor policy case.
