Hidden camera in Girls' Hostel, massive protests erupt

Massive protests erupted at the SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district after a hidden camera was found inside the washroom of a girls’ hostel and the videos were allegedly circulated among the students.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered an inquiry into the matter. A case has been registered, and a final-year student has been detained in connection with the incident.

The camera, placed inside the campus hostel of Gudlavalleru College of Engineering, was found by a student, sparking a protest on Thursday night by the students who raised serious concerns about the safety and privacy of students on campus. Chanting slogans like "we want justice," hundreds of students gathered at the college, calling for strict action against those behind the hidden camera and involved in circulating the videos.

Meanwhile, the state police said they identified the accused in the case as Vijay. The police said Vijay was a student of the same college. His laptop was seized and nearly 300 obscene videos were recovered, which the police suspected he sold to other students.

However, the college administration claimed that no hidden cameras were found in the girls' hostel and stated that they are cooperating with the police probe. They also promised additional security measures on campus.
