PM Modi, Giorgia Meloni's selfie goes viral

A selfie and a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni during the G7 summit have gone viral on social media.

In the picture, taken on Friday by Ms Meloni on the sidelines of the summit that is being held in Italy's Apulia, the two leaders can be seen smiling. While in the video, they can be seen waving at the camera with Ms. Meloni saying "Hello from the Melodi team".

"Melodi" is a term that went viral on social media after PM Modi and Ms Meloni's bilateral meeting last year. "Hi friends, from #Melodi," she posted on X. Last year, the selfie of the two leaders on the sidelines of the COP28 climate summit in Dubai was widely shared on the internet.

PM Modi went to Italy early Friday at the invitation of Ms Meloni to participate in the G7 Outreach summit. This is his first foreign trip after becoming prime minister for the third straight term.

The camaraderie between the two prime ministers was caught on camera. When PM Modi was received by Meloni, both leaders greeted each other with namaste gestures. While exchanging pleasantries, both leaders smiled following a brief conversation.

This was PM Modi’s fifth consecutive participation in the G7 summit, with India having attended the last ten summits. Italy, as the chair of the G7, hosted the gathering of the bloc of seven major economies, including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union.
