Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, fell ill during her visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. Spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri, in whose camp she is staying, revealed that Powell Jobs developed allergies due to the crowded and unfamiliar environment.
"She is in my 'shivir' (camp). She has never been to such a crowded place and has developed some allergies. She is very simple and is here to experience our tradition," said Swami Kailashanand on Tuesday.
Swami said, “Despite her illness, Laurene Powell Jobs is determined to take part in the ritual of taking a holy dip at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers.” Swami Kailashanand added that she is resting in his camp to recover before participating in the ritual. She stayed with us during the pooja. Our tradition is such that those who have never seen it - they all want to join.
Ms Jobs arrived in Prayagraj on Monday to attend the Maha Kumbh, which marks a rare celestial event in 144 years. Named 'Kamala ' by Giri, she will stay in the Kumbh tent city at the Niranjini Akhara camp till January 15, before returning to the US to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20.
