Team India stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl

The Indian cricket team has been forced to camp inside their hotel as the Barbados airport has been shut. There, Hurricane Beryl has intensified on June 20, Sunday. It was reported on Sunday that the Indian team, which won the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29, would likely be left stranded on the island nation as Beryl was expected to make its landfall by Monday morning. Beryl was classified as a category 3 storm on Sunday, with it expecting to have severe consequences once it makes landfall in Barbados.

However, Beryl has been upgraded to Category 4, which is the second most severe one. The Barbados airport has been shut and there's a curfew like situation as no one is allowed to step out. Beryl is expected to hit Barbados in the next few hours and the Indian team would be staying indoors, reported India Today's Vikrant Gupta. “Nobody knows what’s in store the next 24 hours. Unsure about travel plans,” he said..

The storm is projected to maintain its strength while traveling across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea from late Monday through Wednesday, according to the Hurricane Center.
