Sanitation workers at Lucknow’s Charbagh railway station threw water on passengers sleeping on the platform late at night. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
The video shows workers using mugs to throw water on the platform as part of a cleaning routine. However, the water also drenched sleeping passengers, including women and children, forcing them to vacate the area. The act sparked outrage online, with many condemning the workers' actions.
The video was shared by a social media user who claimed that the incident took place on December 25. The Northern Railway’s Lucknow Division responded to the incident, acknowledging the video and confirming that the Chief Health Inspectors (CHIs) and sanitation staff involved have been counselled.
"Passengers are also advised to avoid sleeping on the platforms. The station provides adequate facilities, including waiting halls, dormitories, and retiring rooms, which passengers are encouraged to utilise," the division stated on X (formerly Twitter).
Meanwhile, railway officials expressed displeasure over the incident and have sought an explanation from the sanitation agency responsible.
