Arvind Kejriwal Questions Gujarat Cops Deployment For His Security

Days after Punjab Police personnel were removed from former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's personal security detail, the AAP chief has now claimed that personnel from the Gujarat Police have instead been added to the cover, questioning the motive behind the move.
On Thursday the Election Commission and Delhi Police directed the Punjab Police to remove its personnel from Kejriwal’s security cover. The security arrangement for Kejriwal, involving police personnel from two different states, was against the law, according to sources in the Delhi Police.
On Saturday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor took to X and shared screenshots of a Gujarat Police order issued to this effect and expressed discontentment over the same.
Responding to Kejriwal's attack, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi said that the personnel have been provided as per an Election Commission (EC) order for various states and questioned him over the "selective" mention of Gujarat.
Meanwhile, for the Delhi elections, 250 police companies were demanded from the poll panel, but the Delhi Police received only 220 companies who came from different states, sources said. These companies work for flying squads, interstate border checking, area domination, security in critical polling stations, among others.
On Friday, Delhi Police sources revealed that over the past several days, Punjab Police deployed more than 10-12 armed personnel for Kejriwal's security, which was in violation of the guidelines specified in the "Yellow Book," a security protocol.
Sources also claimed that even if police from any other state provide security, in the event of an incident in Delhi, the responsibility would fall on Delhi Police, not the external force. Therefore, the security of the individual must be handled by the police force of the concerned state where the individual is stationed.
