Rajasthan to become self-reliant in Energy sector

A new chapter has added to the energy sector of Rajasthan on Sunday, towards making the state self-reliant in the power generation sector. Various MoUs and Power Purchase Agreements have been signed between the State Government and Central PSUs to strengthen the energy transmission system in the state and to establish new projects for the generation of thermal and renewable energy.

As many as 5 MoUs and one power purchase agreement signed between 3 state power corporations and 6 central PSUs for the investment of Rs 1.60 lakh crore for the development of the energy sector, including power generation projects of more than 31825 MW in the state.

MoUs and PPAs will increase energy production

Under these agreements, Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam has signed MoUs with Coal India Limited, NTPC and NLC India for establishing thermal projects of 3325 MW capacity. Utpadan Nigam alsoed sign MoU with NTPC Green Energy for setting up 28500 MW renewable energy based projects.

Similarly, MoU with an estimated cost of Rs 10,000 crores has been signed to strengthen the transmission system in the state between Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam and Power Grid Corporation. Besides, a power purchase agreement was signed between Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam and SJVN Green Energy for the supply of electricity through 600 MW solar energy projects. An Investment of about Rs. 1,60,000 crore shall be made on these new projects to be developed under Joint Venture.

Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited also signed MoU with NTPC for development of 1600 MW coal based project at Chhabra Thermal Power Project and another MoU with NTPC Green Energy Limited for 25000 MW Solar/Wind Project in the state. Similarly, RVUNL has signed MoU with Coal India Limited for setting up 1600 MW Pit Head Coal Project, 2250 MW Solar project, 200 MW Pump Storage Project, and 50 MW Wind Project. An MoU for development of 125 MW pit head lignite project and 1000 MW solar project has also been signed between RVUNL and NLC India Limited.

Thus, an investment of Rs. 1,16,000 crore by NTPC, Rs. 26,700 crore by Coal India, Rs. 5,050 crore by NLC, Rs. 10,000 crore by Power Grid and Rs. 2,250 crore by SJVN Green Energy will be made towards operationalization of the MoUs signed yesterday.

MoU between REC and State Government for development of infrastructure

Apart from this, an MoU also signed between Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) Limited and the State Government to provide financial resources to various undertakings of the Rajasthan Government for the development of the infrastructure sector of the state. Under this, REC Limited will provide loans worth Rs 20,000 crores every year to various departments, undertakings, and institutions of the state government. This MoU will ensure rapid growth in projects related to the state's infrastructure sector covering electricity, water, irrigation, metro, transport etc and the state will move towards becoming an economically prosperous state.
