Yet another student suicide in Kota

A Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) aspirant died by suicide in Rajasthan's Kota on Friday, taking the total of such cases so far this year to six. The student was identified as Abhishek Kumar, a native of Bihar's Bhagalpur district.

Abhishek, a JEE aspirant, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance in his rented room in the Vigyan Nagar area of the city. Commenting on the incident, police said that a bottle of the poisonous substance and a suicide letter were recovered from Kumar's room.

"Sorry Papa, I cannot do JEE...," the suicide note read, according to the police. Abhishek was also absent for his two exams that were scheduled at his coaching on January 29 and February 19 respectively.

A postmortem will be performed following which the body of the student will be handed over to his family, police said.

Notably, Kota has been witnessing an alarming surge in student suicide cases in the past few months. Known for its coaching institutes for engineering and medical entrance examinations, this city saw 29 students suicides in2023, raising concerns amongst the local authorities.
