CBI Raids Mahua Moitra's Kolkata Home

Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra's home in Kolkata was searched by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today in the cash-for-query case. This comes a day after the CBI registered an FIR against Mahua Moitra.

The anti-corruption body Lokpal had earlier this week asked the CBI, after receiving a report of the CBI's preliminary inquiry into allegations against Moitra by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey, to probe the allegations against Ms Moitra and submit a report within six months.

In his complaint, Nishikant Dubey, citing a letter he received from Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, alleged that Moitra shared her Lok Sabha's member portal login password with Darshan Hiranandani. Hiranandani, in turn, "posted questions" in the name of Moitra in Parliament, Dubey said. The BJP MP further alleged that Moitra received Rs 2 crore in cash from Hiranandani in lieu of asking questions in Parliament.

Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha last year for "unethical conduct". She has challenged her expulsion in the Supreme Court. The former Krishnanagar MP has been fielded from the same constituency by the TMC in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
